I have recently decided to be more selective with the whiskies I purchase. Going forward, I want to make a concerted effort to buy mostly integrity bottlings. By that, I mean whisky that has and age statement, that's been bottled at 46% ABV, or higher and is free from artificial colouring and chill filtration.
The idea being to sample a distillery's official core expressions alongside the same whisky, that has been bottled with an emphasis on integrity, rather than maximising the volume of sales.
My first bottle was the Tamnavulin, with the second purchase being this Glenrothes, both from yourselves. I am thoroughly enjoying the process. Both are lovely whiskies, but I was especially surprised by the Glenrothes. I prefer to taste without water and then add some to taste. With the extremely high ABV, I was expecting to get a bit of a "going over" tasting neat, but, whilst strong, I found it to be incredibly smooth, requiring a lot less water than I was expecting to add.
In my opinion, there are some genuinely wonderful whiskies out there, disguised with a fake tan and being sold short in the interests of capitalism and you are to be commended for helping to present those whiskies to us, in the manner that I think they should be.
Thank you so much for taking the time to post this review and for your kind words. I am delighted you are enjoying our whiskies and we have helped you in your quest to discover more independent bottlings. Thank you also for your understanding and appreciation for what we do.
Bought this for our whisky club and we tasted it last night. I was looking for a high ABV cask strength whisky that wouldn't be too much for those who haven't experienced cask strength before. This was perfect for us.
We really enjoyed exploring the dram and its development with water. Then going back to the full strength. Everyone found there preferred level and 2 of the guys bought a bottle on the spot!
Fantastic value, excited to try more from A. D. Rattray and this warehouse collection.
Delivery and packaging was superb, couldn't be happier with the purchase.
Thank you for your review of our Glenrothes and for including it in the tasting with your whisky club. I'm delighted t was a hit with them and it has helped some to discover cask strength whiskies!
This whisky is cask strength (67.5 abc) and I sipped cautiously. Delightfully smooth and warming - initially sweet and then citrus. I haven’t added water yet, and probably will not as both I and my drinking chum are enjoying it as it comes from the bottle.
Thank you for reviewing our Glenrothes 12 year Old. I hope you and your friend continue to enjoy the rest of the bottle.
