Speyburn is an underappreciated distillery, and this 10 year-old is a great example of the sweet and fruity Speyside style. The description by A.D. Rattray of 'apple and candyfloss' is spot-on - it's quite sweet, with a note I normally describe as icing sugar, but candyfloss suits it perfectly as a descriptor. It's balanced by enough zesty and fruity notes to make it a perfect sipping whisky.
The four stars pertain to the whisky by itself, the shopping experience as usual was perfect, with very quick free delivery and a bonus 3cl sample.
If you want to try a young Speyburn and you're not inspired by the entry-level Bradan Orach or 10 year-old at 40% ABV and chill-filtered, this one is a hidden gem.
